Auckland Council will consider writing off its $54m loan to Eden Park as part of the Auckland Deal with the government.
“[Auckland] Council to consider writing off the $54m loan ($48.75m drawn down) to the Eden Park Trust, subject to the full and satisfactory resolution of current issues and a sustainable future model,” stated the Auckland Deal agreement document released on Friday.
“Auckland Council will enter a sustainable funding arrangement with the stadium operator as part of its long-term plan (LTP) process (Auckland Council will not assume sole responsibility for renewal or upgrade of the national stadium Eden Park).”
The council said it will also establish a new single stadium operator entity to manage stadiums in Auckland on a ‘venue of best fit’ and ‘best for New Zealand basis’, which will include Crown and Eden Park representation.
