New funding for Māori developments, Waitangi upgrades open

New facilities at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds have opened in time for Thursday’s commemorations.

The work has been funded by $10.2m for major infrastructure upgrades from the Regional Infrastructure Fund.

Regional Development Minister Shane Jones and Māori Development Minister Tama Potaka today announced another $7.1m in funding for Māori economic development projects in Northland and Taranaki.

The funding included a $3m grant to construct a solar- and wind-powered microgrid connected to a community battery in Te Kao village, $2.8m for tourism infrastructure at Pukerangiora Pā, and $1.3m to install solar power and batteries.
