Retailers’ confidence of surviving the next twelve months has risen to 73%, according to the quarterly Retail Radar survey, although sales expectations are mixed.
This was up from 70% of respondents in Retail NZ’s December Retail Radar survey, building on 65% in Q3 2024.
The latest Retail NZ survey found the increasing positivity was due to a focus on the potential uplift in consumer confidence later in the year, and came despite 57% of retailers not meeting targets for the first quarter of 2025 and mixed expectations for quarter two sales.
Retail NZ said mortgages being re-fixed, likely further cuts in the Official Cash Rate, unemployment peaking in the first half of the year, and stable inflation were all expected to support the uplift in consumer confidence.
