An upgrade to Picton’s waterfront strip, London Quay, will go ahead this winter, with work planned to start at the end of May and expected to take around six months.
The upgrade is expected to cost about $2m and Marlborough District Council said its funding would come from its forestry, land and port income.
“This development will ensure it is accessible and an attractive hospitality and visitor space for all users,” said Mayor Nadine Taylor.
She added that the upgrade of London Quay was an “investment of confidence” in Picton as Marlborough’s premier tourist town.
