Woolworths Ōtaki will be converted to a FreshChoice store following a review of how the store can best meet the needs of locals.
The Woolworths banner is for larger stores and a broader customer segment, while the FreshChoice franchise model is the best fit for stores that are tailored for local customers.
A Woolworths New Zealand spokesperson said the grocer had signed an agreement with new owners for the Wellington region store and had consulted with employees on the proposal which was confirmed last week.
It did not say how many employees were affected by the change, but said the new owners would be hiring for a number of roles, and current vacancies at Woolworths Levin, Waikanae and Paraparaumu were also being held for ex-Ōtaki Woolworths staff members.
Woolworths Ōtaki will close on Sunday 23 March 2025 for a refresh. FreshChoice Ōtaki is slated to officially open on Tuesday 1 April 2025.
