Omakau Hotel owner Accidental Publicans Limited has been placed in liquidation by its shareholders.
Liquidator Brenton Hunt of Insolvency Matters said that soon after purchasing the business about three years ago the new owner discovered that it was not sustainable.
Trading ceased in November 2023 and the estimated debts include about $38,500 owed to Inland Revenue and a further $55,000 to unsecured creditors.
The accommodation, pub and restaurant, about 20 minutes north of Alexandra, was named New Zealand’s best country hotel in the 2016 New Zealand Hospitality awards under previous owners.
