Accommodation guest nights flat over summer…

1st April 2025 By Staff Reporter | news@propertyticker.co.nz | @propertyticker

Guest nights across New Zealand for the three months of summer were flat due to a subdued domestic market, according to the latest Accommodation Data Programme figures.

The figures from Fresh Info via the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment showed overall guest nights in December, January and February totalled 13.2 million, the same as that seen for the three months a year earlier.

International guest nights totalled 5 million, up from 4.8 million, but domestic guest nights over the three months totalled around 8.3 million, down from 8.4 million.

Cost of living pressures, poor weather in some parts of the country over summer, and Kiwis choosing to holiday overseas may have contributed to the subdued domestic demand seen over the three months.

By accommodation type, holiday parks and campgrounds guest nights over the three months totalled 4.3 million, down from 4.4 million from a year earlier due to fewer domestic numbers.

By comparison, hotels also totalled 4.3 million over the summer months, but that was up from 4.1 million from a year earlier thanks to an increase in international guest nights.
