Parliament buildings the Ballantrae Place Building and the Museum Street Building have achieved the highest possible Green Star certification from the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC).
The two new buildings have achieved 6 Green Star ratings for their design, which is reserved for buildings demonstrating world-leading approaches to sustainable design and construction.
Designed by Studio Pacific Architecture, the buildings are part of Parliament’s Future Accommodation Strategy, aimed at modernising and expanding the parliamentary precinct.
“It’s a huge testament to the outstanding efforts of Parliamentary Service and the wider team to create buildings that set a benchmark for sustainability in the capital,” said NZGBC chief executive Andrew Eagles.
“They highlight New Zealand’s dedication to environmentally friendly practices and we applaud Parliamentary Service for their visionary approach and commitment to creating buildings that are both functional and green.”
The project’s Green Star certification, overseen by Green Star Accredited Professionals at Aurecon, is an interim design rating, with a final rating provided once the build is complete.
The buildings are expected to welcome members and associated parliamentary staff in 2027
