Queenstown Lakes drives home consents

4th February 2025 By Staff Reporter | news@propertyticker.co.nz | @propertyticker

There were 33,600 new homes consented in Aotearoa New Zealand in the year ended December 2024.

Stats NZ’s latest building consents data released on Tuesday showed that the figure was down 9.8% compared with 2023.

“Otago was the only region with an increase in the number of new homes consented in 2024,” said Stats NZ’s economic indicators spokesperson, Michael Heslop.

“The increase in the Otago region was largely driven by the Queenstown Lakes district. Over 1,500 new homes were consented in the Queenstown-Lakes district last year. Only Auckland and Christchurch city consented more homes in 2024.”
